چکیده

Supervisory Soil Scientist, Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station, Tempe, Arizona; and Soil Microbiologist, Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment Station, Glendora, California. The weathering of parent rock may be an important source of some nutrients. The rates of weathering of the different parent rock materials vary and affect the inherent fertility and productivity of a site. Little is known about the nutrient additions to southern California soils by rock weathering although some research on granitic soils in Idaho indicates that substantial amounts of some nutrients can be added by weathering (Clayton 1979).

Comparison of Ecological Patches' Potentials and Functions in Rangeland Ecosystems (Case Study: Qahavand Rangelands, Hamedan Province, Iran)

Interrupting the processes which control ecosystem resources has dramatic impacts on the rangeland conditions. To protect ecosystems and landscape, it needs to understand the ecosystem processes which regulate the ecosystem resources. As main components of ecosystems, patches and inter-patches play important roles in energy and materials cascade. Ecologically, functional parameters such as stab...

Nutrients and Water Relations in Mediterranean-Type Ecosystems1

The broad correspondence between the sclerophyllous shrub form and the climate in mediterranean-type ecosystems indicates a climatic control over the vegetation particularly with respect to the summer drought, but all five regions are noted for nutrient deficiencies, especially Australia and South Africa. As studies of these ecosystems are completed, divergences related to the control of commun...

Spatial Analysis of Central Zagros Forest Fragmentations for Conservation and Restoration Purposes (A Case Study: Posht kuh Forests, Fereydoonshahr, Isfahan Province)

In the current study, conservation strategies were employed for the spatial analysis of forest fragmentation and field assessment approaches in a forest landscape of Central Zagros, in the western part of Isfahan province, Iran. Vegetation and soil properties were accordingly studied in 15 forest sites with various densities including dense, semi-sparse and sparse-forests with 839.2 km2. In the...
